"For my entire time here, I have postponed medical tests and new therapies to stay completely focused on the job and not miss a single day of work," she wrote.
Greg Brockman, OpenAI's president, will oversee product during her absence. The same day, Brad Lightcap, OpenAI's chief operating officer, announced he is stepping down from the COO role to focus on special projects reporting directly to CEO Sam Altman. Denise Dresser, a former Slack chief executive and OpenAI's chief revenue officer, will take over most of Lightcap's responsibilities.
Kate Rouch, OpenAI's chief marketing officer, also departed last week to focus on recovery from late-stage breast cancer, diagnosed roughly a year and a half ago, according to CNBC.

According to Amazon's SEC 8-K filing, the obligations terminate if Amazon has not invested the full commitment by December 31, 2028 — a deadline that also ties to specified OpenAI milestones, including an IPO or a defined AGI threshold. Roughly two years out, whoever inherits Simo's and Lightcap's responsibilities is working against a clock most capital market participants were not told to watch.
