OpenAI has fired a top safety executive after she opposed the company's plans to allow adult and sexual content in ChatGPT, according to The Wall Street Journal. Ryan Beiermeister, vice president of OpenAI's product policy team, was terminated following a leave of absence in early January. OpenAI maintains she was fired for alleged sexual discrimination against a male employee, which Beiermeister denies. Before her termination, Beiermeister told colleagues she opposed OpenAI's plans to launch an adult mode allowing sexually explicit conversations. She also expressed concerns that OpenAI's guardrails to prevent child exploitation content were insufficient, including whether adult content could be properly walled off from teen users. OpenAI said her departure was not related to any safety concerns she raised.
