A Father-Son Duo Just Raised $5.3 Million to Give AI Agents a Memory
AI agents are getting ready to make purchasing and scheduling decisions on your behalf. But there's a problem: they don't really know who you are.
That's the pitch from Nyne, a startup founded by Michael Fanous and his father Emad Fanous. The idea is simple but ambitious: build an "intelligence layer" that helps AI agents understand humans across their entire digital footprint — LinkedIn profiles, Instagram activity, SoundCloud listens, Strava workouts, government records, the works.
On Friday, Nyne announced it raised $5.3 million in seed funding led by Wischoff Ventures and South Park Commons, with participation from angel investor Gil Elbaz, the co-founder of Applied Semantics and a pioneer of Google AdSense.
According to Michael Fanous, the current crop of AI agents struggle to connect the dots across a person's scattered digital presence. "Once you make all these connections, you can understand a person fairly deeply — their interests, their hobbies, and how they think about very specific things," he told TechCrunch.
The pitch isn't that this is technically impossible — Google does it for ads. It's that Google keeps that data advantage to itself. "For everyone else, this is an oddly hard problem to solve," said Nichole Wischoff, founder of Wischoff Ventures.
Nyne's approach involves deploying agents across the internet to analyze public digital footprints, then applying machine learning to triangulate identity across platforms. The company positions itself as infrastructure for the coming wave of consumer-facing AI agents that will need to understand real humans.
It's a familiar-sounding problem from adtech, but reframed for the agent era. Whether that reframing holds water — and whether users want AI agents that know this much about them — remains to be seen.
